The Blessed Stain: The History, Chemistry, and Tradition of Henna
Nearly twenty years ago, a new body art trend spread like wildfire throughout the West. While a “trend” here, for a large part of the world, from North Africa all the way to India, henna is an art form steeped in thousands of years of use…and tradition. Considered to hold blessings in its very leaves, henna was not just an ordinary plant and the traditional patterns, not just pretty pictures. The elements combined to create powerful blessings and protections for all who were marked with its earthy color.
Making henna is very much an alchemical process. Understanding this plant’s chemistry and how to use that to best advantage is a necessary component for successful application. During this two day, hands-on workshop, attendees will make their own Henna, learn about different application techniques, safety protocols, and easy patterns to combine into a piece of art unique to each person. Discussion points will also include history, traditional uses, and the meaning of various symbols across cultures where henna is endemic.
Total cost for this workshop is only $60 and includes all materials.
